If you search for your page on a search engine and cannot find it, resubmitting it may be the best way for you to have your page returned to the search ranking. Resubmitting will not hurt your ranking even if your page is still valid, as search engines recognize that and simply ignore your request.
The best way to get people to visit your website is to design a good page. The purpose of your site dictates the features that make it great or not so great. The design needs of an online store are not the same needs of a blog. Sometimes simplicity makes the best site of all. Remember, the goal is to be user friendly.
If you want to optimize your search engine, please avoid Flash whenever necessary. Flash may make your site look pretty, but it forces you to use frames and makes particular page linking practically impossible. Which will in the end cause your individual page rankings to decrease. If you simply can’t live without Flash, make it your main centerfold page on your webpage and avoid it on all your individual pages.
Avoid using more than 150 characters in your description tag. Keep the description tag short and concise. Adding too much to the description tag may detract from its purpose and many search engines only allow that number of characters anyway, so by adhering to the limit you can make sure all search engines accept the tag.
While a site map is a great tool in SEO, it’s better if the search engine can get around your site in a natural manner. If the spider needs to rely on your site map, that means your navigation is going to be too difficult for any user to use, too.
Do not use 301 redirects on a page that no longer exists on your website. Instead, use a 401 Gone error page to indicate the page is well and truly gone from your website. A 301 redirect should only be used if the content has actually been moved to another page.
You should go back to school to learn about search engine optimization if you want to take control of your sites future. There are many people who do not realize that community colleges now offer search engine optimization classes. There are some colleges who will let someone sit in on a class for free as long as they are not trying to get credits.
